Michel Salvadore Centanni "Ike" Share E-mail Visit Guest Book CENTANNI Michel "Ike" Salvadore Centanni, age 93, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2010 at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cecile Cristina Centanni. Son of the late Salvadore and Cecelia Centanni. Brother of the late Joseph Centanni and Lebo Centanni. He is survived by Adele and Louis Singer and Sonya and Joe Carr. Also survived by four loving grandchildren: Sarah Carr and Olivia, Jonathan, and Philip Singer (wife, Emily). A long-time resident of Kenner, LA, he moved to New York after Hurricane Katrina and only recently returned to Louisiana. As a young man, he served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was employed by the East Jefferson Water Works and drove a school bus in Jefferson Parish for many years. He was a member of St. Lawrence the Martyr Parish and before that Our Lady of Perpetual Help. After his retirement, he was active in several organizations and held offices in the local VFW, the Kenner Council on Aging, and the local AARP chapter. Ike was a special man and will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him. He had a special charm and collected friends everywhere he went. He received the Order of St. Louis in recognition of his leadership and dedicated service to the Catholic Church from Archbishop Hughes in May, 2002. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at the Kenner Funeral Home of L. A. Muhleisen and Son, 2607 Williams Blvd., on Friday, January, 22, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. Visitation will be on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., preceding the Mass. Interment in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Contributions in Michel's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, NY, NY 10001.
