Edgar Harold Abner, 83, Leesville Road, Bedford, died at 4:07 p.m. Sunday at Bedford Regional Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 23, 1926, in Germantown, Ohio, the son of Pleas and Jannie (Ginter) Abner. He married Clarice East on Oct. 25, 1947, and she survives.

He was a truck driver for Sims Motor Transport for 33 years and also farmed all his life.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Leesville, where he served as Elder and church treasurer.

Surviving with his wife, Clarice Abner of Bedford; are his children, Joan "Jo" Travis, Raleigh, N.C., and Cindy Powell of Leesville; grandchildren, T.C. Travis of Raleigh, N.C., Beth Mathews of Bedford, Michelle Jacks of Columbus, and Mark Nicholson of Leesville; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Lida Jane Greer of Jacksonville, Fla., Mary Lou Shear of Columbus, Ethel Stevenson of Brownstown, Patty Nelson of Rancho Mirage, Calif., and Carolyn Thompson and Renotta Wilcox, both of Bedford; and brothers, Ernest Abner of Florida, Paul Abner of Limberton, N.C., and David Abner of Norman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, William, Boyd, Raymond, Robert, Woodfard, and Thomas Dewey.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Leesville with the Rev. Allen Wolka and Pastor Jack Belk officiating. Burial will be in Leesville Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford, and from 1 p.m. until the service on Wednesday at the church.
