Joe G. Evans, age 90, of Royse City, Texas passed away December 29, 2009, in Rowlett, Texas. He was born in Nevada, Texas on June 9, 1919, the only child of Claud and Tommie Jo (Grubbs) Evans. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1936 and from Baylor University in 1940 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Mr. Evans proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February, 1942 and served his country during World War II in the Pacific as a radioman on Martin PBM Mariner patrol bombers. After the war, he returned to Nevada and married Bobby Jean Cross on July 19, 1954. The couple moved to Royse City, where he continued farming.

Mr. Evans was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church in Royse City, a past trustee of the Royse City Independent School District, a long time board member of the Rockwall County Agricultural Soil & Conservation Service, and was involved in various other civic and church organizations. He retired from farming in 1984. He enjoyed his family, baseball and travel. Joe could recall baseball statistics and trivia from the 1920s to the present and had visited all 50 states. After a lifetime of hard work, he enjoyed retirement and became active in the Rockwall YMCA, gardening and visiting friends. He was a true Southern gentleman and a model of strong Christian values who will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Bobby Evans, daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Tom Keim of Mesquite, granddaughter, Melody Jordan and her husband Michael Jordan of Grand Prairie, and brother-in-law, James Cross. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Rest Haven Funeral Home in Royse City, Texas. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Robert Baldridge on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church in Royse City with interment to follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Rockwall. Pallbearers will be Lee Fikes, Johnny Gibbs, Dean Gray, Chris Strickland, Kenneth Strickland and John Yeager. Memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, PO Box 553, Royse City, TX 75189 or the Royse City ISD Education Foundation, PO Box 479, Royse City, TX 75189.
