"Mrs. Scott Dragoo Died Yesterday"

Mrs. W.S. Dragoo died at her home at six o'clock Thursday morning following a long illness. She had been unconscious for several days before her death but on Saturday preceding had enjoyed visiting with members of her family and expressed herself as being very happy. During her illness, which extended over a period of six months or more, Mrs. Dragoo had enjoyed the visits of many friends and had been very appreciative of their coming although at the same time she looked forward to meeting again friends who had preceded her.

Mrs. Dragoo was a good neighbor and sincere friend and was always ready to help those who were in need. Her life was a very useful one and her cheerfulness and bright outlook on life were among the qualities that endeared her to her friends and acquaintances. She was a devoted wife and mother and her Christian influence has been strongly felt in the lives of her children. In September 1918, Mr. and Mrs. Dragoo celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, at which time three children, five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren were present, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. In the nearly 56 years of their happy wedded life Mr. and Mrs. Dragoo were never separated for more than three weeks. Mrs. Dragoo was one of the early settlers in Atchison County, she and Mr. Dragoo having settled on a farm near what is now Langdon in 1868, and having lived on that farm for forty-nine years.

Mary Jane Dragoo was born January 20, 1840, and was one of a family of twelve children. In her youth, she was converted and became a member of the Christian church. August 22nd, 1861, she was married to George E. Andersen, who died March 12, 1865. To this union two children, Williaim Lawson and Dora Isabel, were born.

September 10th, 1868, Mrs. Andersen was united in marriage to Scott Dragoo, at Ripley, Ohio. Soon after their marriage they came to Missouri and settled on a farm six miles from Rock Port, near the present site of Langdon, where they were to live for forty-nine years. Two children Susan Amanda and Louisa Myrtle were born to this marriage.

In 1917 Mr. and Mrs. Dragoo moved to Tarkio and have made their home here since that time. Mrs. Dragoo was eighty-four years and two months old at the time of her death. Since last November her daughter, Mrs. Bartholomew, had been with her and during the last week of her illness, a granddaughter, Miss Ruth Bartholomew a nurse from State University Hospital, Omaha, Nebr., cared for her.

Besides her devoted husband, Mrs. Dragoo is survived by her four children, W. L. Anderson, Fullerton, Nebr; Mrs. Dora Wallace, Mitchell, Nebr., Mrs. E. F. Mapes, Tarkio, Mo, and Mrs. Lew Bartholomew, Imperial, Nebr., all of whom, except Mrs. Wallace, were present at her funeral; one brother, Milton Dragoo, of Fairfax, twenty grandchildren, and twenty-five great grandchildren.
