Boots was the youngest child of James Guinn Hawkins 1859–1951 and Nancy Beulah Hefner Hawkins

She married Clark Winkler in Young County in 1934. They had the following children:

  • James Mardell Winkler 1935–2009
  • Nancy Janelle Winkler 1935–2021
  • Allen Clark Winkler 1936–1992
  • Cecil Wayne Winkler 1940–2017
  • Gary Zane Winkler 1944–

They moved to Gruver, TX in the mid 40's and he worked for the Highway Department until his death in 1980. She was a schoolteacher.
