Sarah Hannah Buchanan Gray Cox is the daughter of Joseph C. Buchanan and Martha Clark. Reared in Washington County, Arkansas, in Cumberland Presbyterian traditions, she taught at Cane Hill College at one time. She married first to Thomas W. Gray and they had three daughters; he died in 1862. As his second wife and her second husband she married November 17, 1866 to Rev. Burwell Cox; they were to have seven children. Burwell Cox grew up in Washington County, Arkansas, and was ordained a minister of the Gospel by the Arkansas Presbytery of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. After 1840 he carried his ministry to the Republic of Texas where he served until his death in 1898. Burwell Cox married first to Elizabeth Lindsey and they had seven children; Elizabeth died in childbirth in 1859. The Lindsey-Randolph Cemetery carries the name of her father. Burwell's parents, Martha "Patsy" Buchanan and Coleman Cox had four sons, including Burwell, who served as prominent ministers of the Gospel in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
