Thelma Holbrook Puterbaugh, 79, of Portland, Indiana, and formerly of Lima, died Friday, January 4, 2002 in the Jay County Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born July 9, 1922 in Portland, Indiana, to Marvel and Sarah (Ambrose) Ferris.
On September 30, 1950, she married Ballard Holbrook. He passed away on October 30, 1986. She married Dubois Puterbaugh on November 3, 1989, and he survives.

Other survivors include a step-sister, Jacqueline (George) Barber of Muncie, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Puterbaugh was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Portland, Ind., where she belonged to the Lutheran Church Women's Group and served as their treasurer. She had also been a member of the Portland Eagles Lodge. She had been a resident of Lima and worked for many years as a cashier at Krogers in Lima.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 6 in Portland, Ind., and then again on Monday, January 7 in Alger at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home. Pastor Mark Holbrook and Pastor James Holbrook officiated.

Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
