Son of David and Anna Reynolds Miller. Married 1859 to Nellie Brown, 1838-1863.
Nellie died in 1863, the same year Alex would be captured by the Yankees. Some time after 1880 he would move to Indiana. Alexander had Miller/Anderson kin there already, origins of most of them from Martin Luther and Sallie Ritchie. Alexander's Grandmother Elizabeth Giddens Miller had a sister Rhonda who married into the Anderson family.
He would marry Pollie Robinson (Nov. 11, 1884) in Indiana in 1886. Polly died in 1902. They would have a daughter together, Livy Magenta Miller Ashby.
It would appear Alex was a prisoner-of-war for most of the Civil War.
Civil War Timeline:

October 1861 -April 1862 - Present for Muster
Captured Knox County, TN Oct 28, 1863.

Exchanged Feb 27, 1865
The attached letter from Alex to his mother Annie, written in 1905, has been handed down by the generations. It gives us a glimpse into Alex's love for his mother, his sense of humor, his Indiana farm, and family.
He would die in Putnam, Indiana. His daughter Levia and then her daughter would continue to live in the area, perhaps on the same farm, until Helen's death in 2000.
I believe his granddaughter Helen may have been the end of Alexander Miller's line. Helen Ashby never married nor had children according to my research so far.
