Poylemja, a member of the Bay Miwok tribe, was of the 6,000 Native American people who are buried in this cemetery. Poylemja and his wife are the only ones whose grave is marked. This grave went unmarked until 2009 when descendants had this redwood marker made and placed. Cemtery records showed the location of the burials.

Poylemja was born in the village of Saclan, which is near present day Rossmoor in Contra Costa County.
