Victor Eugene "Gene" Eyestone, 83, of Atwood passed away at 8:21 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

He was born on July 3, 1926 in Garrett to LeRoy Webster and Nellie Mae Shipley Eyestone. He married Hila C. Buoy on July 11, 1953 in Garrett. She survives.

Also surviving are his daughters, Debra Harned of Hammond, Lisa (Gary) Jay of Atwood and Beth (Berrie) Slade of Hammond; four grandchildren, Christopher Jay, Tara Jay, Kelsey Jay and Blake Harned and siblings, Mary "Sis" Conner of Hammond, Merle (Barbara) Eyestone of Champaign and Earl (Donna) Eyestone of McLeansboro.

He was preceded in death by one son, Alan Eugene, his parents and brothers Carl, Vaughn, Harry and Robert.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Korea and Japan.
