Luella J. "Lu" Lemmon Walker, 65, Springfield, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010, in her home, following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born October 7, 1944, in Walnut Grove, Missouri, the daughter of the late Orville and Freda (Grant) Lemmon. She was united in marriage on July 19, 1991, in Springfield, to Kenneth A. Walker.

She was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Jacob Elmer Lemmon; a sister, Anne Lemmon; and her father and mother-in-law, Glen and Minnie Walker.

Lu was a hairdresser and owned her own beauty salon for many years. She was a member and past worthy matron of Queen City Chapter No. 226, Order of the Eastern Star, the White Shrine and the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Ladies, and Grant Avenue Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed car racing of any kind, sewing and flower gardening. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister and will be greatly missed by her family and many, many friends.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth "Boomer" Walker; two daughters, Rhonda Fortner, Fayetteville, Ark., and Christie Hill and her husband, John, Springfield, Mo.; three sons, Billy Camp and his fiancée, Amy Kirby, Fayetteville, Ark., Gerald Camp and his wife, Michelle, Springfield, Mo., and Joe Walker and his wife, Bernadette, Pevely; two sisters, Dora Scott and Leah Gables and her husband, Kermit, all of Springfield; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and many, many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2010, in J.D. Lee and Sons Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Burial will follow in Greene Lawn Cemetery, Walnut Grove, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2010, with Eastern Star services beginning at 3:30 p.m., in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Preservation Fund or the Grant Avenue Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund.
