WASHBURN — Alice M. Maassen, 78, 614 W. 3rd St. Washburn, was born to eternal life, Tuesday, November 20, 2001. She was born May 5, 1923, in Nelson, Wis., the daughter of Ulrich and Mary (Obrecht) Fimian.

Alice graduated from Nelson High School in 1941. She married Ralph Maassen on April 20, 1943, in Seattle, Wash. The couple moved to Washburn in 1950 where Alice raised her family. She was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church and the St. Anne's Society both of Washburn. She was also a school board member for the St. Louis Catholic School of Washburn. She was a past member of the Health and Human Services Board, was instrumental in the formation of New Horizons and was a dedicated advocate for the disabled. Alice's greatest enjoyments in life were the times spent with her family.

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Ralph L. Maassen of Washburn; nine children, Ron (Kay) Maassen of Elm Grove, Mary Sue (Richard (Hanke) Maassen of Reno, Nevada, Jane (8ill) Smuck of Omaha, Nebraska, Joe (Linda) Maassen of Madison, Anne (Dale Langer) Maassen of Eau Claire, Jim (Karen) Maassen of Marshfield, Tom (Lori) Maassen of Eau Claire, Tim (Donna) Maassen of Mequon, and Chris Maassen of Ashland; 13 grandchildren, Billy, Dan and Matt Smuck, Nick and Megan Maassen, Erin Langer, Amanda and Ben Maassen, T.J., Ali and Jenna Maassen and Erin and Zach Maassen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today, Saturday, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Washburn, with Fr. Gary Bernhardt, O.F.M. and Fr. John Slowey officiating.

Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Washburn.

Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Bratley Funeral Home in Washburn with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Alice's memory to the St. Louis Catholic Church, P.O. Box 070, Washburn, 5489l.

Arrangements are by the Bratley Funeral Home of Washburn.
