He was born June 11, 1930 in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, the son of the late Elijah Wilburn and Bessie Lou (Sapp) Bowles.
Joe was married March 15, 1969 to Brenda Joyce (Mull) Bowles, who survives.
He was a retired maintenance man for the old Scott Manufacturing Company in Scottsburg, Indiana for 33 years retiring in 1995. Joe was a member of the Fairview Christian Church in Underwood, Indiana and he served as a Cpl in the U.S. Air Force. Joseph was also a member of the Coffee Creek Conservation & Gun Club in North Vernon, Indiana.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons: Raymond R. Bowles of Somerset, Kentucky & Michael Joseph Bowles of Underwood, Indiana; three daughters: Lori M. Copeland & Angela J. Hammill both of Underwood, Indiana and Amy J. Goble of Scottsburg, Indiana; three brothers: George Bowles of Austin, Indiana, Allen Bowles of Henryville, Indiana and Rick Bowles of Austin, Indiana.
He is also survived by his grandchildren; Jodi (Copeland) Jenkins, Nikki Copeland, Rebecca and Julia Hammill, Christina Bowles, Madison Bowles, and Katlynn Goble and two great grandsons Memphis Jenkins and Cash Jenkins.
Joseph was preceded in death by a son: Jody Bowles; two brothers: David & Les Bowles and a sister: Katherine Elizabeth Edwards
