Albert Leonadis Snell was born 31 Aug 1846 in South Point, Ohio. He was the son of Albert Lee and Sarah J. (Anderson) Snell. He departed this life at his home in McFall on 25 Dec 1930, at the age of 84 years, 3 months, and 25 days.
He was one of the few remaining old soldiers having joined the Union army at the age of 18 years and served until honorably discharged.
He was converted at the age of 17 years and became a member of the Baptist church and was a life long Christian. During later years of his life he professed holiness. He loved to relate his Christian experience and lived it in his daily walk.
He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Billips on 18 Apr 1869. To this union ten children were born, two of whom preceded him in death. Those living are: Mrs. Levi Hecker (Corning, Missouri); Rutherford Snell, Stella Musick, Ethel Willis and Elza Snell (all from McFall); Harry Snell (Garnett, Kansas); John Snell (Kansas City); and Grace Howard (St. Joseph). He leaves also 40 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
He was an indulgent father and a kind and loving companion. He and Mrs. Snell had walked life's pathway together for more than 60 years. As he neared the end, his first thoughts were of her. He would often say: "The Lord is calling me but what will you do all alone?"
His chief joy was to do the will of God. Did the God he served stand by him in his last hours of suffering and stand by him as he passed through the valley and shadow of death? Yes, verily, he had no fear of death and talked to his loved ones saying he had no fear of death and was just waiting for the Lord to call him home. When the end came he passed away without a struggle. It is hard to give him up but we cannot call him back, but we can say as David of old, Thank God we can go to him.
It was his request during life that Rev. W. A. Hyde preach his funeral. The funeral was held at the Baptist church in McFall and Rev. Wright assisted in the services. Interment was made in the Heath Cemetery. The comforting music and the many beautiful flowers were much comfort to the sorrowing ones.

Albert and Mary Jane donated additional land for the Heath Chapel and Cemetery in 1889. This added to the land previously donated by Elizabeth (Conwell) Thomas, widow of Spotswood Thomas, for the Heath Chapel.
