Candace lived with her parents, Dr. Russell S. Fileccia, Jr. and Nancy Mizell Fileccia in Shreveport, LA. She was the second oldest in a family of four. She will be greatly missed by her siblings, Lindsey Danielle, Lauren Elizabeth and Cameron Matthew. Candace fought a long and difficult battle with BATTEN's Disease.
Candace is preceded in death by her "paw-paw" Russell, who went to heaven first so he would be there to welcome her home.
Candace leaves behind to cherish her memory, grandparents, Raymond Joe Mizell and Faye Smith Mizell, who reside in Pride, LA; and grandmother, Easter Russo Fileccia who resides in Shreveport, LA; seven aunts and uncles, Ronnie and Tanya Mizell of Pride, LA, Carl and Dori Fileccia of Virginia, Logan and Kim Fileccia of Ft. Polk, LA and Sarena Wicher of Shreveport, LA. She will also be greatly missed by eight cousins, Brandy Mizell of Baton Rouge, LA, Jeremy and Christie Mizell of Pride, LA, Stephen Wicher of Shreveport, LA, David Wicher of Baton Rouge, LA, Gabriella Fileccia of Virginia, and Carsyn and Hayden Fileccia of Ft. Polk, LA; and four 2nd cousins, Madeline, Ryan and Rhett Mizell of Pride, LA and Kaylee Pendergrass of Baton Rouge, LA.
Besides those family members who will forever miss her, Candace was also loved by her church family at Church at Red River and her homeschooling friends in Shreveport.
The family would like to say a huge thank you to Candace's wonderful doctor, Dr. Scott Ritch of Mid-City Pediatrics for being such a blessing as both a friend and a doctor. All of the doctors and staff at Mid-City for always taking such great care of Candace. The nurses and staff of the 4th and 5th floor Peds. Unit at Sutton's Children's Hospital. Candace made many friends there during her three years of fighting this disease. And also to Dr. Kundo, Dr. Hussein, Dr. Donald Sorell, Dr. Mark Brown and Dr. Barbara Bruce for all of their care and love of Candace.
The family would also like to thank Grace Hospice Home, nurses and staff, for the wonderful care that they gave to Candace in the last week of her life. They would like to especially thank their Hospice Home Nurse, Robyn, for her love, support and guidance.
Candace will be laid to rest next to her paw-paw Russell at Centuries Memorial Park. Services for Candace will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. in the Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, money be given to the Children's Area at Church at Red River in Shreveport, LA. Candace loved Jesus and her favorite place to be was at church enjoying worship.
Candace did not walk on this earth for a very long time, but she loved life every day. Her favorite pastime was swinging on her swing, swimming and playing with her blocks. She will forever be missed and never forgotten. Her family feels blessed that God chose them to be her "Forever Family".
