He was born June 1, 1927, at Des Lacs, N.D., to Marine and Alta (DePue) Aker. He served in the US Army from Oct. of 1945 until March of 1947.
He married Cleota (Code) McKinley on May 16, 1950. They moved to Rapid City in 1951, where he worked for Dakota Lime & Brick Co. They farmed near Vale from 1952 to 1954.
In 1954 they returned to Rapid City and Dean was employed with the Dakota Block Co. until his retirement in January 1989.
He married Barbara Dryden-Foreman on August 26, 1988. Dean was well known and respected for his great work ethic and sense of humor. Many of his block laying jobs can be found around the Black Hills area.
He loved horses and western art. During his retirement years he enjoyed wood working hobbies and leather work. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Aker, Rapid City; daughter, Glenda Halter (Bill Gorves), son, Randy (Anita) Aker, son, Bill (Lana) Aker, daughter, Carol Godsell and daughter, Laurie (Greg) Nelson, all of Rapid City, and daughter, Cathy (Blake) Barringer, Pierre; a sister, Jordice Leaver, Whitewood; stepson, Rick (Kelli) Foreman, Tucson, Ariz.; stepdaughter, Kim Stoll, Puyallup, Wash.; stepson, Brett Foreman (fiancee, Karen Rutan), Rapid City; 25 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-laws, Eileen McKinley, Albuquerque, N.M., Betty Aker, Sturgis, Darlene Hoon, Whitewood, and Sue Aker, Spearfish; brother-in-laws, Keith (Betty) McAlmond, Helena, Mont., Dan (Judy) Dryden, Rapid City, and Tom (Nancy) Dryden, Tucson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Code; three brothers, Virgil, Merlyn and Jimmy; a sister, Eunice McAlmond; and a sister-in-law, Sherrill Dryden. Pine Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Hospice of the Hills.
