PROMINENT LOGAN PIONEER WOMAN DEAD
Mrs. Kate Guthary, widow of A.J. Guthary, died at the family home near Logan about five o'clock Sunday morning, following a stroke of paralysis the day before. She had been in ill health for about two years. Had she lived until September 6th, she would have been 90 years old.
Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon. Burial was made in the Fairmount cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. John Scoggin of Decatur who also conducted the funeral of her husband, about 23 years ago.
Eva Catherine Dillinger was born in Georgia, Sept. 6, 1844. She was a member of a pioneer family of early settlers in the Logan community. Following her marriage to Mr. Guthary, they moved to the Guthary homestead, where she had lived for 47 years.
Mr. Guthary died from a heart attack suffered when he was riding horseback. Falling from his horse, the faithful animal returned home rider less and a searching party found his lifeless body by the roadside.
Mrs. Guthary was the mother of eleven children, eight of whom survivor her. These are Mrs. Laura Gailey, wife of Joe Gailey, county tax collector of Bentonville; Andy, John, Cal and Alfred Guthary, Mrs. Tita Willis and Mrs. Ella Collins, all of the Logan community also Jason Guthary of Whittier, Calif. She is also survived by 32 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
