Lewis is the son of John L. and Nancy (Clute) Barhydt. He married Elizabeth K. Kennister in 1843. To this union were born eight children, George Washington Sr. Helen, Ransom H., Horton, Parish, Nancy, Mary Ann, And Dolly.
