She was born to Henry and Rose Williams on Sept. 14, 1916 in Vernal, Utah, and later lived in North Logan, Utah; Rexburg, Idaho; and St. George, Utah.
She married Owen Slaugh in the Cardston Temple in Canada on July 24, 1940. They had 13 children: Reed (Eleanor) Slaugh of California, Kathleen (Howard) Bahr of Utah, Elaine (Phil) Baugh of California, Owenna (Doug) Nagy of Pennsylvania, Carl (Cheryl) Slaugh of Kansas, Jim (Karen) Slaugh of Delaware, Rosemarie (Dave) Shipp of Arizona, Julie (Brent) Hill of Idaho, Linden (Debra) Slaugh of New Jersey, Leslie (Brenda) Slaugh of Utah, Dallin (Crista) Slaugh of Washington, Marianna (Ken) Taylor of Texas, Bart (Kirsten) Slaugh of Pennsylvania.
There are currently 75 grandchildren and 71 great-grandchildren, plus 47 spouses of children and grandchildren, that are part of her posterity.
Verona served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Western States Mission in 1936-38, and in 1979-80 served a mission with Owen to the California San Diego Mission. Verona and Owen served in the St. George Temple for many years.
The strength of Verona's life is not in numbers or accomplishments, but in the gentle but profound example of the way she lived her life. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. She loved her Savior and truly followed after Him. She was a wonderful listener, and was able to teach and help change lives with gentleness. She showed by example how to speak kindly, serve others, live righteously, and follow the Lord's plan.
Verona was preceded in death by her dear husband and helpmeet, Owen in 1994; and by two choice grandsons, Daniel Nagy and Ritchie Hill.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m. at the Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S Bluff St., St George, UT, 84770, 435-673-2454, with viewing starting at 9:30 a.m.
