Former Local Pastor Is Taken By Death
The Rev. Cecil Roscoe Smith, 75, former Decatur Pastor, died at 11:45 p.m. Saturday in the Wells County Hospital at Bluffton.
He served many pastorates before his retirement, and also was formerly the conference historian and statistical secretary of the Evangelical United Brethren Church.
Rev. Smith had served as pastor in many Indiana communities, including Decatur in 1926, now the Trinity E.U.B. Church, and Moneco, Ligonier, Roanoke, Otterbein. Young America, Goblesville, Plymouth, Columbia City, Grass Creek, and Linn Grove. He had also served for a time as supply pastor at the Calvary E.U.B. Church east of Decatur.
Surviving are his wife, Mabel; two sons, Cecil R. and Herbert Smith, both of Indianapolis; one grandchild, and one sister, Mrs. Selma Thomas of Ann Arbor, Mich.
Friends may call at the Goodwin Funeral Home in Bluffton until 10 a.m. Tuesday. The body will then be removed to the J.A. DeMoney & Son Funeral Home in Columbia City, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Pleasant Chapel E.U.B. Church in Jackson Township, Huntington County. Burial will be in Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.
