Honored Arcadia Man, Hugh Buck, Dies at 87
"Hugh Earle Buck, 87, former owner of Buck's Dairy and Buck's Dairy Store and a resident of Arcadia since 1921, died Jan. 12.
"Mr. Buck was chosen Outstanding Older American by the city of Arcadia in 1971 and received the H.T. Michler Rotarian of the Year Award in 1968 for perfect attendance and service above self in Rotary. He accumulated 47 years of perfect attendance.
"Among the many honors he received were the Grand Cross of Colors for distinguished service to the Rainbow Girls and the President's Award presented by the High-Twelve Club of Arcadia.
"Mr. Buck was a charter member of the Arcadia Historical Society, a member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, a charter member of the Arcadia Presbyterian Church and the Arcadia Golden Age Club.
"He is survived by his widow, Helen; two sons; one daughter, Virginia Bates of Arcadia; nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
"Private services will be held Thursday morning at Forest Lawn, Glendale, followed by memorial services at the Arcadia Presbyterian Church at 11:30. Officiating will be Dr. James Hagelganz, pastor of the church, and Milton H. Schuck of the Arcadia Masonic Lodge.
"Friends may call at Glasser-Miller-Lamb Arcadia Mortuary, 500 S. First Ave. between 4 and 9 p.m. today.
"Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 13571 E Broadway, Whittier 90601, in memory of Mr. Buck."
