Services for Theodour "Ted" Albert Summers, 86, of South Carolina, formerly of Killeen, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple with the Rev. Ernest Thompson officiating.

Burial with military honors will be in Temple Garden of Memories.

Mr. Summers died Tuesday, Jan. 5, in a Georgia hospital.

He was born June 29, 1923, in Austin to Ora and Mary Smith Summers. He married Esther Eyer on April 12, 1946, in Carrollton, Ill., and she preceded him in death in 2003. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, Korea and Vietnam, and had tours in Germany. He spent six months in England before D-Day, and was a part of the Normandy Invastion as well as campaigns in France and the Ardennes. He was awarded a Purple Heart in World War II, and five Bronze Stars, including one in Vietnam in 1971. After 26 years of service, he retired as a sergeant first class. He also served in civil service for 10 years in Fort Hood as a logistics supervisor. He was a member of the VFW, the D.A.V. and the Gilmore Senior Center in Killeen. On July 16, 2007, he married Alyssa Taylor in Lampasas. He was a member of East Highway Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Earnest Summers of Georgia; three daughters, Jewel Summers of Killeen, Bonnie Taylor of South Carolina and Wanda Summers; a stepson, Ryan Tinder; a sister, Helen L. King of Austin; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to East Highway Baptist Church, 9828 Texas 53, Temple, 76501-7458.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
