James Bell, Civil war veteran, and member of the Soldiers' Home at Burkett, Neb., passed away at the St. Francis hospital at 7:40 p.m. Monday. Blood poisoning, resulting from an infection in the hand caused by a scratch was the cause of death. Several days ago, when the seriousness of his condition was realized, he was transferred from the Soldiers' Home hospital to St. Francis hospital where his death occurred. Mr. Bell was born in New York City on June 1, 1846 and was aged 77 years. With his parents he moved to Michigan in 1858 and at the outbreak of the Civil war he enlisted for service from that state.

Surviving him are two sons, Wilbur Bell, of Grand Island, and S. J. Bell of Ashland, Mont., as also a brother, Joe Bell, of Muskegon, Mich., and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Goodno, of Union City, Mich. His wife preceded him in death in 1915. Funeral services will be held from the Soldiers' Home chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. J. Henry Stutt officiating. The body will be taken to Gering, Neb., his former home, for burial.
