Joseph W. Abrams son of Joseph Abrams Sr. & Elizabeth Perciful (Persefield) was born in Madison County, Kentucky in 1812.

He married Lucinda Logsdon on Nov. 17, 1830 in Estill County, Kentucky.

He served in the Civil War as a private in the Union Army under Capt. John F. Lacey, 22nd Volunteer infantry Company C. Enlisted by Colonel Daniel W Lindsey at Camp Swigert on the 28th Day of October, 1861. He had six sons in the United States Service, and was discharged 29 March 1864, discharge signed by Capt. Lacey at Baton Rouge, LA
