JAMES H. DAVIS FUNERAL HOME OBITUARY - 2008
Hugh T. Hawkins, 86, of Owensboro, KY, died Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Owensboro Medical Health Systems. He was born August 7, 1922 in Owensboro to the late Joseph & Louise (Brown) Hawkins. He was a graduate of the University of Missouri and was a WWII veteran. He was drafted in the US Army at the age of 20, and served in North Africa and Italy. He was awarded two Bronze Stars and the Victory Medal. He was advertising manager at the Messenger-Inquirer until his retirement in 1987 and was a member of the Southside Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Sue Hundley. Survivors include his wife of 53 years Beverly Hawkins; a son Jim Hawkins & his wife, Carri of Parker, CO; a brother, Cashman Hawkins & his wife, Lois of Evansville, IN; and four grandchildren, Laura Lee Hawkins, Trevor (Laura) Hawkins, Jeffrey Hawkins and Kelli Hawkins. Services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. on Friday and after 11 a.m. on Saturday at James H. Davis Funeral Home. Military honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 696. The family requests that expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Heart Association, 240 Whittington Pkwy., Louisville, KY 40222.
