John G Casebeer, of Co. F, enrolled Sep. 22, 1861 in Waterloo by Capt. Merrill as a Private; mustered in Nov. 22, 1861 in Ft. Wayne by Lt. Stansbury at age 25. He was 5Œ 9 tall, dark complexion, brown eyes, and dark hair. Born Jul. 16, 1836, in Tuscarawas Co., OH, employed as a carpenter, married to Elizabeth Wells, resident of Butler, in DeKalb Co., IN. Mustered out at the end of the war Sep. 14, 1865 in Nashville, TN with rank of Sergeant. Notes: Brother to Calvin. Sick in hospital in Evansville Mar. 7, 1862 with mumps. Elected to the corporalship to fill vacancy Mar. 16, 1863. Wounded in spine at Chickamauga; sent to Chattanooga Hospital. Returned to Regiment from Hospital Oct. 5, 1863. Reenlisted Jan. 1, 1864. Promoted Sergeant May 10, 1864. On furlough May 30, 1865. He filed Invalid Pension Application to receive Pension Certificate #150379 Aug. 18, 1877 and received $4 pension for diseased lungs and injured right shoulder. Resident of Crooked Creek 1879; of Butler 1880; of Nevada Mills 1882-1910; of Auburn 1915, then back to Nevada Mills. Died Mar. 10, 1918, in Nevada Mills, IN; buried West Jamestown Cemetery in Steuben Co., IN. Elizabeth filed Widowfs Pension Application to receive Widowfs Pension Certificate #845425 Mar. 18, 1918 in IN.
