Franklin Dale Lewis was born May 27, 1933 to Dorr and Opal Lewis in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He was the fourth of ten children. He went to school at Oak View Elementary, East Junior High and, graduated from Ponca City High School in 1951. While at Ponca High, he was a reporter for the Future Farmers of America organization.
After graduating, Dale worked at Boeing Aircraft Corporation in Wichita, Kansas. After a year at Boeing, Dale was drafted by the U.S. Army in June 1953. He served his tour of duty at Fort Sill, OK as a machinist. He received his discharge in May 1955.
Dale went back to Boeing and Wichita. He worked for Boeing for ten years. Dale then went to work for Continental Pipeline (Conoco) in Wood River, Illinois in 1963.
While visiting Kansas, Dale met the woman he was to eventually marry, Cledrey Del Hannan. They were married August 26, 1955.
Dale and his family lived in a number of states since 1955, including Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Michigan, Wyoming, Montana, Washington, Texas and Louisiana. Dale's work also took him to Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Milne Point, Alaska where he worked as a construction superintendent on the pipeline. In 1979, the Lewis' moved back to Ponca City and built a house near Lake Ponca, on land claimed by Dale's grandfather in the Oklahoma Land Rush. Dale retired from the pipeline in Kingfisher, OK in 1993. Dale and Cledrey moved to their farm in Kansas and raised cattle and wheat.
Dale and Cledrey are the parents of five, the grandparents of nine and the great grandparents of two children. Their children are Cristy Harts of Haviland, KS; Greg Lewis of Chandler, AZ; Kevin Lewis of Plains, KS; Doug Lewis of Oklahoma City, OK; and Janelle King of Woodbury, Minnesota. Their grandchildren are Jeff Harts, Lindsay Logue, Nate Harts, Jake Harts, Matthew Lewis, Craig Starks, Kyle Lewis, Kirby Lewis, and Cole Lerner-Lewis. Their great grandchildren are Presli and Peyton Harts.
Dale will be greeted in heaven by his parents Dorr and Opal Lewis, In-laws Dude and Dot Hannan, two brothers Donald and Garland Lewis, and a grandson Cody Lewis.
