He was a professed member of the Secular Franciscan Order of Saint Francis of Assisi Fraternity in Andover, MA. During WWII he served in the U.S. Army.
Besides his wife he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel R. and Donna (Lafferiere) McGonagle, and Denis M. and Mary (Bucknell) McGonagle; two daughters and a son-in-law Kathleen P. Murphy, Rosemary B. and Bruce Consaul; 10 grandchildren, Noelle, Shawn, Devon, Keith, Terrance, Rebecca, Brianna, Lynette, Brandy, and Darrin; and four great-children. He was also father of the late Mary McGonagle; father-in-law of the late Brian Murphy; brother of the late George McGonagle Jr., Charles McGonagle, Grace McGonagle, Frances Weaver, Dorothy Waas, and Elizabeth Deary.
