Daniel Godair Ainsworth was born February 8, 1837 in Mississippi. He moved to Texas around 1855 and was later married on July 3, 1865 to Elizabeth 'Betty' Abshier (1847-1912), a daughter of Benjamin Abshier Jr and wife Carmelite Boullet. Ainsworth enlisted in Company D of Waul's Texas Legion in 1861, and served under Captain Benjamin Franklin Sterling. The Ainsworths lived in the Hankamer area, where he was a farmer and cattleman. He died there on November 1, 1904, and is buried in the Abshier Cemetery near Hankamer.

Dan and Betty Ainsworth had niine children:
Benjamin T (1869-1871);
James Monroe (1872-1937), who married Laura M. Dugat;
Mary Ann (1875-1954), who married Albert Ellison Lee;
Josephine (1877-1907), who married Robert Monroe Barrow;
Isaac (1879-1955), whose wife was named Rosa E;
Carmelite, who married Charles Frank;
Elizabeth, who married a Hamshire;
Fannie (1887-1969), who married Ruben Barrow; and
Sam (1890-1924), who married a Miss Applegate.
