John Hiram Button was born in Baron County, Kentucky, September 23, 1852, and died at his home near Bentonville, MO, January 27, 1934, age 81 years, 4 months and 4 days. He died in the same house where he was married and in which he celebrated his sixtieth wedding anniversary.

He was the son of Jefferson and Mary Jane Button and came with them to Missouri t the age of three months, crossing the Mississippi river in a steamboat.

His parents settled in Pettis County, where they lived until he was sixteen years of age and then moved to Benton County, where he spent the remainder of his life.

He was married to Margaret Cox December 4, 1873. To this union were born three sons and six daughters, namely: John W. Button, deceased; Mrs., Joseph M Her, Cross Timbers; Mrs. John H Breshears, deceased; Mrs. Horace Breshears, La Monte; Walter J and Thomas E Button of Warsaw; Mrs. John F. Breshears, Fairfield; Mrs. Harris Miller, Fairfield; and Mrs. Roy Myers, St. Louis.

All of his children were at his bedside while he was ill.

He professed faith in Christ in the year 1883 during a revival conducted by Rev. M. L. Atchley and although he never united with any church the Baptist was his choice.

He always took an active part in the church and Sunday School work and was superintendent and Bible teacher a number of times until his health began to fail. He had been in failing health for a number of years but did not give up and was only confined to his bed a few days.

All that medical skill and loving hands could do to help him was to no avail and on Saturday morning at nine o'clock he quietly passed away.

He was laid to rest in the L. P. Union cemetery Sunday. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. James Wright.

He leaves a sorrowing wife, seven children, 31 grand-children and seven great grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn, but our loss is his gain.

Pall bearers were six grandsons: Robert and Virgel Breshears, Clyde and Berchie Miller and Roy and Ralph Button.

A daughter,
Mrs. John F. Breshears
