Mrs. JoAnn "Jo" R. Smith, 78, of Middletown, Md., died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, following a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late Gerald P. Smith Sr.
Born May 28, 1931, in Hagerstown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Albert A. and Leila M. Smith Remsburg.
Mrs. Smith was an active member of the Frederick (Md.) Presbyterian Church.
She retired from The Herald-Mail in Hagerstown after more than 25 years of service as the newspaper librarian.
Jo loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, taking care of the family dogs and watching old classic movies.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis K. Remsburg.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Jan. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 11 a.m. at Frederick Presbyterian Church, 115 W. Second St., Frederick, with the Rev. Eric T. Myers officiating. Interment will be in Boonsboro Cemetery, Boonsboro.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Frederick Presbyterian Church Music Fund at the above address.
