Lillian Edith McGowen, age 96, of Weatherford, Texas, and formerly of Baird, Texas, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2010, after a long bout with Alzheimers and other age related infirmities. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 11, 2010, at the Chapel of Parker Funeral Home in Baird, with Rev. Dr. Richard H. Wood officiating. Interment will be at Ross Cemetery Annex with graveside rites by the Moran Chapter No. 591 Order of the Eastern Star.

Oldest child of Sidney and Tina Harville, Lillian was born on September 28, 1913, in a log cabin located along the banks of Deep Creek in Callahan County. She lived the majority of her life in Callahan County, mostly in Baird. Lillian and C. S. "Hoot" McGowen married in Baird, Texas in May of 1946. He preceded her in death on September 9, 1982.

She worked in several grocery stores in Baird, but her most lengthy employment was with Modern Cleaners in Baird where she made many friends within the community. Lillian was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star for seventy years, but her health in recent years curtailed her activities. She had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Baird for more than 60 years.

In addition to her husband, "Hoot", she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rubye Joyce Atwood; a granddaughter Edie McGowen; three sisters, Flora Mae McIntyre, Velma Armor, and Lucille Breeding; and a brother, Shelby Harville.

Lillian is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Stanley and Jolene McGowen of Weatherford; a grandson, Travis McGowen of Sierra Vista, Arizona; a sister, Adilene Settle of Big Lake, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
