J. F. Pruitt Passes
After Extended Illness


Following an illness of several months J. F. Pruitt, pioneer resident, passed away at his home in this city on April 22, 1945, at 10:50 p.m., aged 72 years 9 months and 4 days.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. M. D. Gentry, Baptist pastor, were held at the home at 3:30 p.m. Monday, with burial in the cemetery at Wynnewood. Hutchins & Sons in charge.

James Franklin Pruitt was born July 18, 1872, at Cleburne, Texas. He came to Indian Territory in September, 1888, living since that time in and around Davis.

August 13, 1894, he married Mary Emily Layton, who survives. To this union were born four children, three of whom are living, namely: Ed Pruitt, Sulphur, Okla.; Bill Pruitt, Okla. City, and Ralph Pruitt, Dougherty, Okla.

Other survivors are a granddaughter, Mrs. Dan Gallion, Tulsa, who was reared in the Pruitt home; three brothers, John Pruitt, County Line, Okla.; Con Pruitt, Davis, Okla., and Dick Pruitt, Claud, Okla.; one sister, Mrs. Lee Gamlin, Okla. City; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mr. Pruitt was a member of the Methodist church at Brady, Okla.
