Estelline Business Establishments Close for Funeral Services; Masons Have Charge.

W.B. Duncan, aged Confederate Veteran, and a pioneer of Hall County, died Saturday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F.M. Trapp, of Memphis, after several months of failing health.

Funeral services were held at the tabernacle at Estelline, where the deceased was buried, the Masonic Lodge having charge of the services. A large crowd attended and the business houses of Estelline closed in paying respect to the aged veteran.

Carrying out a request made by him, he was buried in his old Confederate uniform.

Mr. Duncan was born June 22, 1840, in Marshall County, Tennessee, at which place he grew to manhood. At the age of twenty-one he enlisted in the Confederate Army, serving as a valiant soldier throughout the war. On returning from the ranks, he was married to Miss Rebecca Jane McGregor. To this union five children were born, four of whom are still living.

In 1868 he moved to Smith County, Texas, where he resided for twelve years. It was at this place that his wife died, in 1879. Moving to Kaufman County a few years later, he married again, this time to Sarah Murphy, to whom three children were born, two of whom are living. This wife died in Coryell County, eight years after their marriage.

In the fall of 1890 Mr. Duncan came to Hall County, where he had resided the past thirty-four years. The past three years of his life were spent in the home of his daughter, Mrs. F.M. Trapp.

For the past fifty-three years he has been a faithful member of the Baptist Church.

Resolutions of Respect.

To the Worshipful Master, Warden and Brethren of Estelline Lodge No. 823, A.F. & F.M.:

We, your committee appointed to draft resolutions dedicated to the memory of our deceased brother, W.B. Duncan, beg to submit the following:

Resolved, that in the death of Brother Duncan the lodge has lost a worthy brother and a true Mason; the community in which he lived, an honest and upright citizen; the family a loving and devoted father.

Brother Duncan was a charter member of Estelline Lodge No. 823 and during these many years his life has been a shining light in honor of God, to Masonry and to the world.

Be it resolved furthermore, that we extend to the bereaved family our sympathy that we spread a codpy [sic] of these resolutions on the minutes of the Lodge, that we send a copy to The Memphis Democrat, and one to the family of the deceased Brother.

Signed:
H.M. Faulkner,
Alvin White,
Seth Cowan,
