Mary Isis Holmes, daughter of Peter and Cathrine Young, was born near Republic City, Ks., on March 25, 1888. She departed this life July 2, 1968, aged 80 years, 3 months and 7 days.

When she was but a small girl her parents traveled by covered wagon to a homestead near Guthrie, Okla. There she lived until the death of her mother, then she returned to Republic County with relatives. Her home was in Republic County and Thayer County, Nebr., where she has since resided.

On March 12, 1904 she was united in marriage to Edward Ellis Holmes and to this union four children were born. They are Guy Andrew of Nipimo, Calif.; Ellis Anzo of Anaheim, Calif.; Albert Elmo of Louisville, Nebr.; and Daisy Maud of Belleville, Ks. She is also survived by three daughters-in-law; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; and other relatives; and many good and faithful friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, five sisters, and her husband who died Sept. 2, 1933. She was the last of her family.

She became a member of the Chester Christian Church in 1908.

In her garden of flowers where she loved to work, she felt closest to God. Her faith never faltered. Her prayers were of God's will. Her devotion to her family and her friends and neighbors was her greatest joy.

She was confined to her bed but a few short weeks. Her strong will to be helpful kept her thoughts on her home, her children and her grandchildren.

The funeral service was held at the Chester Christian Church on Saturday, July 6th, with Dennis Davenport and John Frint, retired minister, officiating. Interment was in the Chester Cemetery.
