Mrs. Lela Hughes, Newlin Resident, Is Buried Today

Funeral services for Mrs. Lela Pearl Hughes, 76, of Newlin were held at 2 p.m. Thursday (today) in the Church of Christ here. Arthur W. Smith, minister, officiated.

Interment was in Newlin Cemetery under the direction of Spicer Funeral Home.

Lela Pearl Read was born June 10, 1895, in Wise County. She was united in marriage to James Everett Hughes July 22, 1911, at Bridgeport and came to Hall County that same year. Mr. Hughes preceded her in death July 5, 1952.

She is survived by two sons, Nathan N. Hughes of Newlin and Edmond A. Hughes of Lubbock; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Donna Davis of Bridgeport, Mrs. R.N. Clark of Lesley, Mrs. Mary Jane Moore of Dallas, Mrs. J.W. Longshore of Memphis and Mrs. E.A. Vance of Canadian; and four brothers, Floyd Read of McAlister, Okla., Charles of Lubbock, Z.L. and Jerrald, both of Amarillo.

Pall bearers were Robert Clark, Floyd Reed, Jr., Terrell Read, Jr., W.O. Clark, Bobby G. Read and Wyman Davis.
