Husband of Ellen M. PRITCHETT

Aaron TROUT was born 24 Nov 1837, Highland Twp, Madison, IL, the son of Daniel TROUT, Sr. (circa 1805-after 1870) and Spisa SMITH RULE (1796-1860).

Aaron married Ellen M. PRITCHETT on 30 Sep 1866 in Madison County, IL. At least four children were born to this union, to include Alfrette, circa 1868; Edward, circa May 1870; John Logan, 13 Feb 1872; and Violette TROUT, circa 1875; all born in Marine Twp, Madison, IL

Aaron was a carpenter by trade, stood 5'5", had dark hair, blue eyes, and a fair complexion.

In the very early days of the Civil War, Aaron joined Company "A," 1st Missouri Infantry, which was popularly known as "A" Rifle Battalion, Lyon Guards" for 3 months service. The "Lyon Guards" were hastily organized by Capt. Nathaniel Lyon in an effort to defend the Union Arsenal at St. Louis. On 15 Sep 1862, Aaron next enlisted as a Private in Company "I," 31st Illinois Infantry, serving for 3 years, and mustered out on 31 May 1865 in Washington, DC. His regiment fought in 33 battles and skirmishes, to include very heavy fighting at Fort Donelson, Tennessee, 15 Feb 1862; Vicksburg, Mississippi, May 1863; Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia 27 Jun 1864; and Atlanta, Georgia, Jul 1864.

At age 59, Aaron TROUT was admitted on 22 Jan 1897 (admission #3899) to the Soldiers' and Sailors' Home, Quincy, Adams, IL, where he died about 19 days later on 13 Feb 1897 and was buried in Sunset Cemetery on the Soldiers' and Sailors' Home grounds. The site is now known as Illinois Veterans Home.
