L.H. Brandt acquired his education in Bremer county and in a business college, where he spent one year. After laying aside his books he returned to the homestead and upon his father's retirement came into possession of one hundred and sixty acres, upon which he has since carried on general farming and stock-raising. This is highly improved, being provided with substantial buildings and modern equipment, and under Mr. Brandt's able management it has increased in value year by year.
In 1901 Mr. Brandt was united in marriage to Miss Sophia Milius, who was born in Maxfield township, Bremer county, and whose parents were among the early settlers there. The father owned a large farm but retired in 1906 and is now living in Denver, Iowa. He and his wife were the parents of nine children. To Mr. and Mrs. Brandt have been born four children: Edna, who died at the age of eight; Nora, born in 1904; Arthur, born in 1906; and Amanda, born in 1911. The family are members of the Lutheran church. Mr. Brandt is numbered among the active and progressive farmers and stock-raisers of this county and he merits and enjoys the esteem and confidence of a wide circle of friends.
