A W Barrett Dies

Conway Jan 19 Aeneas Wilton Barrett 56 hardware merchant of Conway died at his apartment at the Kinston Hotel shortly before 1 o'clock Sunday morning after an illness of several months.

He was a native of Sumter County. Coming to Conway 32 years ago he organized with associates the Perry Hardware company later purchasing the entire stock and owning same at his death.

Years ago he was a member of the city council. During his term the electric lights were installed. He was also founder of the People's Building and Loan Association and served as a school trustee. For more than 15 years he was a deacon on the Kingston Presbyterian church serving in this capacity until death.

He was recognized as an outstanding civic leader at Conway and throughout the county.

He is survived by his wife who was Miss Mary Atwater, Bynum and Winston Salem; a son AW Barrett Jr. New York; two brothers W. W. Barrett, Camden, and Jamie Barrett, Sumter.

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11 o'clock at the Kingston Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Cecil D. Brearly pastor. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
