At his father's home at Turner, Ills. Friday, October, 5th, 1874 [sic]. Mark Brown aged 47 years, 4 months, and 1 day.
Mr. Brown was born in Turner, June 4, 1847, and remained there until 1864 when he enlisted in the army and served three months. In the spring of 1866 he crossed the plains to Montana where he engaged in mining, freighting, and ranching, and was elected and served two terms as sheriff of Madison County, Montana. He returned from Montana about a year ago in poor health and gradually failed to the end. His funeral, under the auspices of the Masonic and Odd Fellows fraternities, was held from the Congregational church Sunday afternoon, and the remains laid at rest in Oakwood.
