Julian Berry "Jay" Shields, 89, passed away Monday, December 21, 2009 at Edgemont Healthcare in Cynthiana where he had been a resident for 5 years.
He was born July 10, 1920 in Nicholas Co. to the late John & Matilda Dampier Shields. Jay had been a farmer in Nicholas, Bourbon and Fayette Counties and was a member of the Mt. Zion Christian Church.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Thaddeus Flora Shields, 7 sisters, 4 brothers, a grandson, a great-grandson and a great-granddaughter.
Survivors include a son, Don (Carolyn) Shields, Paris, 3 grandchildren, Debra (Tom) Hamm, Nicholas Co., Dawn (Frank) Glowatz, Georgetown and Rebecca Short, Paris, great-granddaughters, Jessica Hillock, Julia, Erin, Olivia, Cristina & Cassie Glowatz, great-grandsons, Zachery, C.T. & Coleman Hamm, great-great grandsons, Cody Hillock and Isaiah Elliott and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Mathers-Gaunce F.H. by Rev. Gary Ellcessor with burial to follow in Carlisle Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 12:00 Noon on Wednesday.
