Weldon Barner Abbott, 103, of Pine Bluff died Tuesday at Trinity Village Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 23, 1903, at Princeton, a son of John Samuel and Sarah Lenora Looney Abbott.
He graduated from the Fourth District Agricultural High School at Monticello in 1920 and attended Arkansas A&M College (now the University of Arkansas at Monticello), where he became a farm and dairy manager in 1928.
He worked as a laboratory technician with International Paper Co. at Camden for several years, then as director of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Office for Ouachita County.
He accepted the same position in Jefferson County in 1949 and had lived in Pine Bluff ever since. He retired in 1973.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Men's Bible Class.
He was active in the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry at Little Rock, 32nd degree, a Shriner at the Sahara Temple at Pine Bluff, a member of Pine Bluff Masonic Lodge 69 F&AM, a member of Pine Bluff Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow, and a member of the Retired Federal Employees after 28 years of service with the U.S. Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Betty Strickland Taylor Abbott; two sons, Dr. W.S. Abbott of Salt Lake City, Utah, and H. Lavon Abbott of Crossett; one stepson, Howard P. Taylor of Sanford, N.C.; one stepdaughter, Mary Ross Taylor of Wimberly, Texas; one sister, Beth Merritt of Alexander; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and caregivers Linda Finley, Tomeka Freeman and Yvette Jenkins.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Lee Kinney officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Pinewood Memorial Park at Crossett by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
Family visitation will follow the service at the church Friday.
