Prayer service for Mildred E. (McCabe) Ahern was held Friday, Jan. 8 in the Benson Memorial Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9 at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Frank Schmitt officiating. Burial will be in the El Reno Cemetery under direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ahern died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, in her home surrounded by her family. She was born June 20, 1918, in Calumet, to Barney and Iva McCabe. She was married to Robert J. Ahern of El Reno in June 1940. They raised nine children while traveling the world in the U.S. Air Force. They returned to El Reno in 1983. Mildred was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Catholic Daughters, Sacred Heart Altar Society and Sacred Heart Quilting Group. She served as an El Reno Federal Prison minister, a founding member of Birth Choice and a Russell-Murray Hospice volunteer.

She is survived by her children, Patricia Ahern, Barbara Risacher, Mike and Kay Ahern, Steve and Martha Ahern, Jim and Ann Ahern, Mary Ahern, Martha Ahern, Jane and Scooter McCaleb and Angela and Brad Downum, 23 grandchildren, 30 great- grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Ahern and husband, Bernard Ahern; and sister, Jean Davis, her aunt, Alma Stroud; sisters-in-law, Donna Ahern and Bernice McCabe; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was greatly loved and she will be held in our hearts forever.
