MILWAUKIE - Josiah W. "Jesse" Barker, 100, died Jan. 1, 2010, in Milwaukie, Ore., where he had resided the past four and a half years. The son of James and Ann (Alvey) Barker, he was born in Escalante, Utah on Jan. 24, 1910.

In his younger years he was a cowboy, a profession of which he was most proud. He later was employed as a warehouseman. Following retirement he and his wife retired to Ocean Park where they had maintained a summer home for a number of years.

He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Letter-Day Saints and was very devoted to his faith.

Mr. Barker was proud to have made it to the century mark in his life.

He was married to Lela Alberta Griffin until her death in 1987. Survivors include his daughter-in-law Marie Barker of Milwaukie, Ore.; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-grandchildren. His two sons preceded him in death.

A funeral service was held Jan. 4, at Penttila's Chapel by The Sea in Long Beach. Dedication of the grave and burial followed at Ilwaco Cemetery. His guest book is available at www.penttilaschapel.com.
