Mrs. Asher, Former Area Teacher, Dies

Mrs. J. Winifred Asher, 84, of Princeton, N. J., former Marshall County resident, died Wednesday in Newport News, Va., while visiting her son.

Born Joyce Winifred Wood-ward, Dec. 23, 1879, on a farm near LaMoille, she was the daughter of Myron and Helen Johnson Woodward. She received her education in the rural schools of Marshall County, later attending college at Cedar Falls. She taught several terms in the sdhools of this county..

IN 1902 she was married to James Stewart and they lived in Quarry. To this union five children were born, who survive, Mrs. Phyllis Williams of Franklin, Mich., Mrs. Wilma Davis of Princeton, N. J.; James Stewart of Waterloo, Peter Stewart of Route 2 and Kenneth Stewart, of Newport News, Va. Also surviving are three grand-children and five great-grandchildren.

In 1916 she was married to H. B. Asther and they made their home in Detroit, Mich. For 35 years, she was employed by the Michigan Bell Telephone Co., was past president of the Pioneer Club of that company and the Senior Citizens Club of Princeton, N. J.

PRECEDING HER in death was her husband in 1932, two sisters and two brothers.

Services will be from the chapel of Estel-Perrin Funeral Home at 3 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. John Alexander, pastor of the First Congregational Church in charge. Burial will be in the LaMoille Cemetery.
