Florence Hooper was born on March 29, 1921 in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to George and Laura Hooper. On August 20, 1940, Florence married Lawrence Breman Baker in Lake Charles, Louisiana. They had one son, Breman Wayne Baker. She was an accountant for George Theriot, Inc. for 35 years and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints.
In the wake of Hurricane Rita in 2005, Florence and her family relocated to Rochester where Florence moved into Samaritan Bethany Heights. She immediately became active serving as the president of the Patients' Council for several years, and filled the role of librarian until her death. Florence also participated in several plays at the nursing home. She was recognized for her hundreds of hours of volunteering. Her family is forever grateful to the staff and residents for the love and friendship shown to her these past four years.
Florence is survived by her son and daughter in law, Breman and Pat Baker, four grandchildren, Breanna (Joseph) Bly, Patricia Crow, Brent Baker and Kristen (Jason) Suydam, 11 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, and four siblings, Joseph "Tan" (Ola) Hooper, Herbert (Melda) Hooper, Dorothy (Brian) Baker, and George (Joy) Hooper.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Lawrence and Monroe and her sister Vernie.
A prayer service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 am at Mahn Family Funeral Home Rochester Chapel with the burial immediately following at Pleasant Prairie Dale Cemetery on Highway 63 North. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Samaritan Bethany Heights at 3:00 pm on Thursday.
