Mr Charles Hopper
Dear Son,
I will write you a few lines in answer to your most kind and welcome letter that I received yesterday evening was glad to hear from you and to hear that you was all well, we are all well at the present. I was sorry to hear of Will death do you no what was the matter with him tell me in your next letter wher he lived and how many children he had. Charles I had bad luck this evening my cow (old Moll) died and left a young calf 2 or 3 days old. It has been snowing all day and it is nearly a foot deep and still snowing. Charles we are about ready to commence planting corn our wheat looks fine. George and his wife is living with us and have been very since he married a little over a year ago. Elisebeth come and stayed all night with us 2 or 3 weeks ago said they was all well she brought me a letter from Tom that had been sent to Rich Creek.

Charles you was born Aug the 13, 1849.
