Funeral services for John A. Engstrom were held Sunday afternoon in the Fred Engstrom home at 1:30 o'clock and in the Baptist church at 2 o'clock. In the quartette were Mesdames Albert Hubner, Ralph Freese, Oscar Borg and Marie Martens, and they were accompanied by Mrs. Francis Sorley. The Rev. Francis Sorley was in charge of the services, who used for his text, Job 14:14. The remains were interred in Oakwood Cemetery. The pallbearers were Jonas Westrum, Nels Westrum, Clarence Neese, Alfred Johnson, Nels Angstrom and Jonas Angstrom.

John Alfred Engstrom was born on a farm northeast of Stratford, April 16, 1878. When he was 9 years old the family moved to Hay Springs, Nebr., where he spent his boyhood days with his brothers and sisters on a farm in that community. When he was 21 years old, the family again moved, this time to El Campo, Texas. In 1906 he returned to Stratford and here he met and married Nellie Berglund. Of this union four children were born, the first of whom died in infancy. The others are Melvin Angstrom (Engstrom) and Oscar Engstrom of Stratford, and Ethel, now Mrs. Raymond Schlacter, of Braham, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, two brothers and two sisters.

He was a member of the Baptist church in Stratford and participated in the services as far as his physical condition permitted.

In 1923, he was married to Signa Christina Olson and early in 1936 the family moved to Rush City, Minn., where he died Wednesday, April 26, 1939, after having been in poor health for several years. He was 61 years, 10 days old.

The surviving relatives are: his wife, the three children, a stepson, Hans, two brothers, Fred Engstrom of Stratford and Ed Engstrom of Garwood, Tex. and five grandchildren.
