Vernon was born to Pearl Luella Stancliff and Alvin Martin Kizziar on 18 December 1913, the third of their eight children. He married Virginia Pauline (Ginger) Barns in 1939. They had two daughters: Judy Arlene Kizziar and Leanne Kay Kizziar. Vernon attended Fruitvale Elementary School and Kern County Union High School. He worked all his life in the oil industry and was a supervisor for Trico Oil & Gas and Consolidated Resources, Inc. when he retired in 1979. He was a true fisherman and a wonderful storyteller.
