Albert Herbert Brisco was born November 9, 1888 in Sheridan, the son of Alonzo and Menerva Peoples Brisco. He moved from Sheridan to Lissie in 1922 and came to Eagle Lake around 1928. He was employed by Thomas and Wintermann in canal and water work in this area

He was united in marriage with Mary Josephine "Jose" Williams in Sheridan on Feb. 18, 1917.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Jesse Monroe and Leslie (Lonnie) of this city; five daughters, Mrs. Frank (Eva Lee) Dittrich of this city, Mrs. W. A. (Marge) Rooks of El Campo, Mrs. Lee J. (Eve Lois) Neimeyer of Hockley, Mrs. B. H. (Barbara Lee) Hall of Jacksonville, and Mrs. Wayne (Gertrude) Sizemore of Berwick, La.; Twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; also a brother, Isam Brisco, Sr. of Sheridan and a sister Mrs. Eli (Alta) Varley of Columbus; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Verna Brisco and baby son Billy Brisco, also two brothers, Eddie and Searcy Brisco; and four sisters, Mrs. Billy (Dora) Bullard, Mrs. Robert (Doll) Einkauf, Mrs. Ida Lee and Mrs. Verdie Lee.

Last rites were read from the chapel of the Mill-Bauer Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 10th, 1972 with the Rev. Charles Meyer, pastor of the Grace Lutheran Church officiating. He was placed to final rest in the Cheatham Cemetery near Sheridan. Serving as pallbearers were: Darius Brisco, Charles Brisco, Frankie Brisco, Robert Wayne Rooks, Bertice Dittrich, and Freddie Walker III.

Mr. Brisco was a devoted father to his family and was friendly and quick to help when called upon. He was known to relatives and friends as "Uncle Bud."

During his active days he was one of the major workers in constructing the canal system using mules and a fresno on the Eagle Lake and Lissie prairies. He was always willing to do a good turn and was a friendly and willing worker at all times.

Family members report that many of them have a picture of him and brother Isam astride a team of oxen with old wooden plows taken at Rock Island at about 1905 when the area was a thriving community. He was a wonderful story teller, recounting fascination tales of the old days while working cattle from Sheridan to Matagorda; and other experiences of interest especially to his grandchildren.

He shall be missed greatly by his loved ones and friends.
